Hahaha, yup, hence why I love them so much. And Harry, for some reason, was not too angry at them for their comments, I think he has a soft spot for them, but regardless... Harry was being unreasonable, yeah. -_-
Yeah, an asshole. But I'm glad someone could slap some sense into him at one point or another. He was probably really pissed at being shut up with little or no info about the wizarding world. I didn't mind him much, until he got started on Ron and Hermione.
Loved this scene - you can never beat a quick-witted Weasley moment and you definitely nailed this one. Also, read over the little debate about your work resembling ~viria's. I guess, having it brought up, I can see a slight similarity, but for me your art styles differ quite a lot. What stands out to me about ~viria's art is her use of colour, whereas your figure drawing and expressions are what catches my eye. Those are two very different aspects, so I guess what I'm trying to clumsily say is that I think you have very different focuses as artists and thus different styles.
Thank you for noticing the difference in details! I love her work and I never deny the fact that most of my drawings are inspired by her own creations - in fact, it was because of her that I began to use my tablet for drawing and she recommended I use SAI, so I owe it to her, I really do. But like I said, it really means TONS that people do know that there are very clear differences between our styles, maybe not at first sight, but they are definitely there.
I've always been very keen about details, especially around the face and expressions, because I like my characters to come to life. I did try to take a new direction though, because I felt like my stuff looked too anime-ish, which is explanatory due to my excessive amounts of viewing anime in the past (and in the present as well). But yeah. Thank you!
And hahaha, I know! I love those twins so much, and Ron too, they are just so hilarious. XD
This is really well done...it's just that in all honesty, and I don't mean to be rude...it looks exactly like *viria13. I mean, it's uncanny. She really should be credited here, at least for 'inspiration'. I wouldn't base your style so much after another artist, for one: that can frustrate the artist your copying, and two: it's going to be hard to make a name for yourself if you don't stand out. You obviously have talent if you're capable of making this, so use the skills you have to make original work. That's my advice.
Thanks, but no, I don't think it looks exactly like Viria's work at all, you truly must be blind to think that it does. I draw bodies, hands, and faces differently, and her colors are usually more muted due to the textures she uses. I admit, this one did turn out to look more like hers, but I honestly don't think they look the SAME.
It really pisses me off when people just immediately write off my drawings as looking exactly like hers. All artists, writers, and songwriters are inspired by someone else's work. Look at Lady GaGa, who has become such a great celebrity and has admitted to getting much of her inspiration from Madonna. And there are MANY other artists who's songs look practically the same, but do they get shit? Not usually. What about artists from different time eras? In the Renaissance, for example, most sculptures and paintings looked similar, if not, the same, but yet I really doubt anyone cared. Same goes for artist from Asia, especially in China and Japan, who both used ink to make drawings.
Not only that, but people used to give Viria crap about her drawings looking like Burdge's when she was a beginner as well.
To be quite honest, I don't need to tell everyone that she's my inspiration, because she already knows. We are friends and she understands what it is like to be a beginner. That's between us and I don't think it's really anyone else's business.
I am not copying her, for one, because if I was then, again, my drawings would look exactly like hers, which they don't (and I have people who agree on me with this). Second, I don't care about making a name for myself (there's really no point, popularity is worthless, I guess it's satisfying, but only to certain extent), I like drawing like this, and I am trying to gradually make my own unique style. Drawing on a tablet is different from drawing on paper, and I've only just been drawing digitally for 3 months.
So thanks for the advice, but I think I know what I'm doing.
Well, I wasn't trying to be rude, the long winded, defensive response was really unnecessary. About artists being influenced by other artists, I totally agree; a lot of times there are coincidental similarities between my work and another artist, and it's just because they had a great influence on me. Honestly, I don't think it's the same situation, and I'm entitled to my own opinion.
If anyone would understand what it's like to be told she's a copycat, it would be Vika. She dealt with it a great deal for a while, to the point of people being incredibly cruel. I am friends with her as well, and I helped her through her struggle with being attacked by so many burdge-followers. So if she has seen your work and is fine with it, and you don't particularly care either way about making a name for yourself anywhere, then I don't have anything else to say.
My primary concern was that Viria is recognized for her work. Plain and simple. She dealt with enough crap from people last year with the burdge-deal, and now that people are copying her without giving her credit..well, I just can't help but be defensive of her.
Give her a break. Just because Viria is obviously a big influence on her doesn't mean she's setting out to be Viria. She respects Viria as an artist and as a learning artist herself, picked up some of the stylistic techniques of Viria's that she likes best. I don't think that really means she needs to give Viria credit for being an influence on her. I'm sure there are plenty of wonderful artists that have influenced you, but you surely don't feel the need to cite each and every influence on each of your deviations. AniPokie is a building artist who maybe hasn't found exactly where her style sits yet, so she's taking - conscious or not - tips from other artists by picking up on things she likes. That doesn't mean her style will stay like this forever. There is absolutely a similarity between her's and Viria's style, but like Viria eventually developed a style more specific to her (instead of her old style that was so close to burdge-bug's), AniPokie will almost definitely do the same. C:
I'm not looking to get into a fight with anyone, I'm sorry that what I said hurt her feelings, I simply felt that Viria deserved some credit because I think a lot of her work looks identical to viria's. Not just the style of people, but the coloring and the backgrounds too. I truly thought that was unfair to Vika, which is why I called her out on it. But apparently viria already knows and doesn't care, so I don't have anything else to say on the matter.
I was looking out for Viria, but I was also looking out for this artist. I told her she obviously had a lot of talent and didn't need to copy other artists, that she could stand on her own. A lot of the people who told viria she was copying burdge did so a long time after she had developed her own style. And they were cruel, they would go to the extent of calling her names, writing journals about her, etc..it was really uncalled for. I am not a bully, and while I'm sorry I hurt her feelings, I was pointing out something which she already admits to.
Alright, you didn't hurt my feelings that bad, it was just a tiny bit offensive. So don't worry about that.
I get it that you're looking out for Viria, so I commend you for being a good friend and being defensive, but this is not your place to do so, in my opinion.
And thank you for telling me I have talent. I still disagree that our drawings are not identical, but I have told you and her that eventually it will change and I will make my own unique style, it just won't happen overnight.
I can say whatever I want on my drawings, and I chose to reply in that manner. Sorry, but I was offended by you thinking that they look the same, which they don't. You were sharing your opinion my work, and it wasn't necessarily a good opinion, so don't be all surprised in the way I responded.
Yes, dear, you are entitled to your own opinion, but like that saying goes, if you have nothing good to say, then don't say anything at all. I know I allow comments, but I didn't necessarily ask for your opinion.
I'm glad you know what it is like going through this, but if you already know what she went through, aren't you being a hypocrite for being, in a sense, the same as those burdge-followers? I know you're not attacking, but you are calling me out on it, which is almost the same thing. What don't you understand about beginners? If she understands, then you, being her friend, should understand as well.
Viria understands. If she is okay with it and knows what it is like to be a beginner and be greatly inspired by another artist's work, then so be it. If she had a problem with it herself, she can come to me and tell me. I'm definitely not going to listen to anyone else, because I'm sure she didn't tell you to come on her accord and call me out on it. I have always credited her whenever I am asked, because she deserves it, but I don't think I need to credit her in all of my drawings, that's just redundant, especially if she already knows herself.
I don't have anything else to say, because I think it's absolutely ridiculous to be having a discussion over this.
Alright, I'm really not interested in getting into a serious debate with you about this. I understand why you might not have liked what I had to say- but I think it's ridiculous that you're defending yourself to this extent. It's really unnecessary. To be honest, I don't find it hypocritical, because I don't really think viria copied burdge-bug to the same extent. That's my personal opinion, I'm sorry if you don't like it.
And another thing, I wasn't even attacking you. I was telling you that you obviously have talent and have the potential to be a great artist without copying others, and also encouraging you to branch out. And that's what I really believe. I definitely never had anything against you, and wasn't looking for a fight. I am not a mean person who tries to hurt people. If I hurt your feelings than I'm really sorry, I honestly never intended to. I thought you would understand why I felt the need to say what I said. All you had to say was, 'Well, Vika already knows and isn't bothered by it.' I was pointing out what you already know, you admitted it yourself, so why get so defensive? There's really no merit to it.
I really like the way you draw their faces, but I think you should work a little at the shoulder area. They're not really proportional to torso and the lower part of the body. Other than that, great job!
