"I miss you, Fred..." Hermione whispered to the grave she was lying quietly on top of.
"I miss you, too, 'Mione..."
She swore she had heard those words be spoken, and started looking around her in shock; hoping, praying, that she'd see his face again.
But she didn't. She began to sob once more as she realized she missed him so deeply that she was starting to imagine things.
"You see this dress, Fred? This was the bridal gown I was going to wear to our wedding." She stared at her engagement ring on her left ring finger.
"...But you left me before we spoke our vows at the altar. Why? Why did it have to be you...?" she choked out desperately.
For what seemed like an eternity, Hermione eventually sat up and wiped her tears away with her now dirty arms. She didn't care how she looked anymore. Her dress was slightly smudged with dirt while her hair sat bushier than ever on her slim shoulders.
She sniffled sadly and looked intently at the grave before her.
"You said to move on and make your brother happy if anything was to happen to you. I never imagined anything would actually happen..." More tears came and she quickly calmed herself down once more. "Well, I'm going to try my best to begin a happy life with Ron. Like you said, he'll treat me right. I know..."
She smiled. A true smile for the first time in weeks.
"I love you, Fred. I always will, and I won't ever forget your shining face."
She kissed the tips of her fingers of her right hand and touched the surface of stone where his name was engraved.
As she leaned forward to leave a bouquet of roses in front of Fred's tombstone, she felt a warm sensation on her back and then a sudden relief of having a burden lifted off of her shoulders.
Unbeknownst to Hermione, Fred had been standing right next to her, sobbing just as passionately as Hermione just had moments ago. He had whispered back, and she had heard, to his surprise. When he learned of her decision, he had touched her back and kissed her shoulder, hoping she'd feel his departure from this world.
